When Murray realizes that he seems to have all the time in the world and hears MacDowell suggest that he could take the time to learn new things he decides to start taking piano lessons. For the piano teacher it is always his first day, and in those first days he is pretty bad, but as the lessons start to take can't believe he is a beginner and asks, "Are you sure you've never taken a lesson before today?" To which Murray replies,
"Well my father was a piano mover, so I've got that going for me." Why that makes me smile, even as I'm writing it right now, not sure, but the mystery of how certain talents we retain and others never really click seem to ring true in explaining abilites that seem to come from nowhere.
