Smiles

I watch the weight slip off you
So that your lips let go and
The rose in your cheeks rise
Sweet ethereal stranger
Could you have given me a more treasured gift
Than to share your euphoria so undauntingly in view
Of all the world
And yet unaware of
This regretful bard
Who watches on.
How you round the edges
How well you define my undefined joy
In being but this small
Oh so integral part of humanity

Perhaps I should feel guilty to be voyeur
And if I could give it thought I’m sure I would
But you and friend are there
Lost and adrift in the sea of our honorable selves
That I can only look on
Hope to save the slightest fraction of this
Moment
So that when I can see it not
In all directions
I will imagine it
As a reminder to
Fear not for dawn does come.
